It is a valuable task for cultivation that allows correcting imbalances, improving plant aeration and therefore, reducing the risk of diseases and pests, facilitating harvesting, and keeping the plant in a permanent youthful state.

At Finca la Torre, pruning is carried out immediately after harvest and is done biennially. That is, 50% of the estate is pruned each year.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

It is mainly based on the application of compost, along with spring contributions via irrigation and foliar applications with organic inputs, authorized in organic and biodynamic agriculture.

Prevention is our main tool. For this, it is essential that the olive trees are healthy and that there is great biodiversity to maintain the ecosystem’s balance.

The biggest risk for quality oils is the olive fruit fly. Fortunately, the olive fruit fly populations in Finca la Torre have rarely suffered imbalances that have put the quality of the olives at risk. The presence of stable populations of antagonistic insects, early harvesting, and frequent wind make it an inhospitable place for this insect.

The rest of the pests and diseases do not usually pose serious problems, and their control can be carried out through very specific actions.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

At Finca la Torre, we take care of every detail in the field, maintaining ideal conditions for our olive trees. We work with wild plant covers, controlling them through mechanical mowing at times of the year when competition with the olive grove is greater. This mowing is done with a tractor in the lanes and manually in the vicinity of each olive tree. Tillage is non-existent.<\/div><\/div>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

The olive tree is a typical dryland crop. However, water contributions through irrigation allow for making up deficiencies in years when rainfall is scarce. In turn, proper management of irrigation water will make it possible to refine the characteristics of the oils, as the moisture of the olive is a parameter to be taken into account in oil production.
